Despina Macris is a director at Dotdash, an interdisciplinary wayfinding design studio based in Brisbane, Australia. A highly experienced visual communicator Despina has had a design career spanning over thirty years. Despina’s area’s of expertise lies in developing visual languages that respond to how wayfinding strategies are communicated in the built environment. She focuses on the relationships between spatial design and visual communication - typography, colour and graphic design. She uses her knowledge and expertise to design clear visual responses to contextual evidence. Her work reflects her belief in the importance of connecting people to place and in doing so building authentic relationships.
Despina is the co-chair for the Queensland Chapter of the Society of Experiential Graphic Design (SEGD). She is an active member of the Society of Experiential Graphic Design (USA), International Institute of Information Design (Zurich), Sign Design Society (UK), Australian Graphic Design Association (AGDA), and the Colour Society of Australia. Despina has was invited to join the judging panel in Washington DC for the 2015 SEGD awards and most recently, in 2018, has judged the Spatial Design, Design for Good and Design Effectiveness categories for the National AGDA awards.
